My Inevitable iPad Reaction

dimensions_20100127

It doesn't impress me much since it looks and functions just like a giant iPod Touch, but the idea of the a non-contract 3G internet device is very exciting. I don't want to get it, but I already know after one or two versions, I'll be dropping the dough. After all, it's nearly 10" wide and size matters, no?

My Green Day

Just as I was ready to dismiss seeing 'American Idiot', a new musical based on Green Day's Grammy-winning album, they announced the cast list that has been changing my mind. As expected, John Gallagher Jr. ('Spring Awakening') is heading the show but it's the inclusion of Stark Sands that's going to bring me to St. James Theatre sometime this year. I've been a fan of Sands since his turn in 'Journey's End' and his role in the HBO miniseries "Generation Kill" only cemented himself as one of those actors I'll be keeping an eye out for. The show itself will launched March 24th. Oh, I hope Sands can ease my doubts when he and the cast performs '21 Guns' on the Grammys this Sunday. (Playbill)

My Australian Open Film Festival

What a genius idea, combining two of my loves into one. This year's Australian Open had their inaugural 'Changing Ends' film festival, a collective of tennis themed short films. Sure, it's still in an amateur stage, but the winning film completely captures the Australian Open atmosphere- fun, light and full of promise. Check out "When I Grow Up":

My Art Appreciation Fail

article-1245910-0803C64F000005DC-33_468x331

I gotta say, if this ever happens to me I would:

A) Think I've suddenly became famous from my brief stint with 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent' and am the next subject of Ashton Kutcher's revived "Punk'd".

B) Run really, really, fast.

C) Blame the nearest art appreciator for pushing me.

D) Proclaim I'm Robert Langdon and the secrets of what really sank the Titanic was hidden behind the painting.

E) Cry.

My Chinese Tennis Players

chinesetennis

Now, for a little heritage pride. For the first time ever, two Chinese women are in the quarterfinals at a tennis Grandslam. Sure, there are two Americans, three Russians as well.. but this is unprecedented. While Li Na, the 16th ranked player in the world, has a tough order in front of her having to face Venus Williams in the next round, unranked Jie Zheng has more than a shot to advance into the semifinals with a fellow unranked Maria Kirilenko as her foe. Best of luck to both women. (AO)

My Jeremy Renner Picture

Before tonight's SAG Awards, I went over to the official site and brushed up on my nominees before making my picks and when the category for Lead Actor in a Motion Picture, I was met with this picture:

I mean, Mr. Renner is not an unattractive fella, so why post this odd looking headshot of him? Couldn't they have chosen a still from his film like the rest of the nominees? I suggest this one.

Ah, that's better.

My Double Triple Dose of Piazza

poster

Even more theatre news. Two separate theatre production companies are scheduled to revive (albeit briefly) my favorite stage musical of all-time, The Light In The Piazza. While I'm sure the Arena Stage production will be grander due to funds, I'm personally more excited the Tallahassee Little Theatre's version- especially now that I know I have friends of friends who are involved. Can't wait to check it out during Oscar weekend '10!

UPDATE: Was just informed that there's currently a production in Toronto! Gee, all three locations are easily accessible to me. Oh, the temptation to shell out cash for the love of the theatuh!

My #6 Anticipated Film

Okay, I wanted to add one more to that list. The upcoming Allen Gainsberg biopic 'Howl' features a lot of actors I like. Here's just a sample:

Not to mention:

This is gonna be some movie. I need to hear from those Sundance folks what they thought of it. But for now, here are a few clips from the film:

I guess Franco is really gunning for that Oscar nod, huh?

My Open Letter to Hollywood

Hey Folks Who Ruin Musicals,

Since the release of 'Moulin Rouge!' and 'Chicago' close to eight years ago, there has been an onslaught of movie musicals adapted from Broadway that resulted in catastrophe- either critically or commercially if not both. As a theatre fanatic, this trend will only hurt my opinions towards productions I currently love. So here I am, pleading, for less adaptations, but if you must here are a few recent shows you are more than welcomed to ruin for me and a few productions I beg of you not to even think about.

Adapt:

My Top Five Television Programs of 2009

To be honest, I don't watch enough television to make an actual top ten list of television programs. My take on television has always been watch what's good and dump the rest, the reason why I've "broken up" with no less than five shows in 2009 ('The Office', 'How I Met Your Mother', I'm looking at you). So here it is, my top five television programs of last year:

5.
Fun, infectious and easy on the eyes.

4.
Best produced Academy Awards ever.

3.
Unreal, dramatized and hilarious.

2.
Best drama on television. Period.

1.
Like 'Arrested', but tamer and a whole lot more heart.
